Advanced Performance Dentistry
Routine dental care is critical to your horse’s wellbeing and is a critical component to developing a trusting relationship between horse and rider. Regular dental exams help to detect abnormalities in the mouth before they become larger problems. Our advanced dental techniques and equipment aim to reduce procedural time while also minimizing trauma to the horse’s oral tissues. By reducing pain and discomfort associated with dental issues, we can help you and your horse to reach your goals, whatever they may be.
Preventative Medicine
It is said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and it’s true that a good preventative medicine program is vital to the overall, long-term health of our equine friends. The basics of a successful preventative care program include twice-yearly vaccinations, routine deworming in conjunction with fecal egg counts, and regular dentistry.
Lameness
Lameness evaluation is one of our passions here at MVS. Whether you have a high-level performance horse or a pleasure companion, we take pride in conducting comprehensive lameness exams, complete with the latest in diagnostic imaging modalities, to determine the source of your horse’s lameness. We also offer a variety of intraarticular and intralesional therapies including Platelet Rich Plasma, IRAP and Prostride.
Pre-Purchase Exam
A pre-purchase examination is one of the most important processes in the acquisition of a new horse. Whether you’re looking to purchase a young Warmblood or a trail companion with many miles, there are certain pitfalls we can help you to avoid prior to completing the purchase. Our pre-purchase examination includes an extensive physical exam followed by a soundness evaluation complete with flexion exams and diagnostic imaging (if indicated/requested). We also offer routine bloodwork and drug testing too. Our goal is to identify potential issues which may impact the horse’s ability to perform at the intended level.
Imaging
We offer the latest in diagnostic imaging modalities including multiple digital, direct capture radiography systems. This technology enables us to acquire radiographic images (X-rays) in the field which often helps to promote prompt identification of the source of lameness, as well as applicable therapeutic options. We also have multiple ultrasound units, necessary for the proper evaluation of soft tissue injuries. If further advanced imaging is required (CT or MRI) we have long established relationships with hospitals in the area that offer such services.
Chiropractic Services
Chiropractic manipulation has been used for decades in horses as a diagnostic tool and treatment option to optimize health, improve quality of life, and increase performance. Chiropractic adjustments function to reduce pain by restoring a normal range of motion to the spine as well as unencumbering the nervous system to restore its optimal function. Abnormal posture, poll stiffness, resistance to saddling, behavior changes, lameness, difficulty with specific leads, and strong one-sided tendencies can all be indications that your horse could benefit from a chiropractic adjustment.
